Backyard Portraits with My Niece: Quiet Confidence in Familiar Light
I don’t often photograph kids—but this afternoon with my niece reminded me why I love still, simple sessions. She’s got a calm, serious presence that felt easy to photograph—no big energy, just quiet confidence and natural movement. We stayed close to home, in the backyard, where the light was soft and the setting familiar. That combination gave us space to make something honest and unexpected.
Sometimes the best portraits are the ones that feel the most like real life.
Timeless Moments: Then and Now
Looking back at photos of my niece from a younger age, I’m reminded of the balance between seriousness and silliness she brought to each frame. Some of these images were taken in a simple studio setup, against a clean white backdrop. Her quiet intensity paired with a playful side makes these portraits feel timeless. (these look great in black and white also!)
